Following on from a recent project with the team at HelpDigital and their client Meg Rivers Artisan Bakery for automatic shipping label generation, we worked on a follow-on project to streamline their order picking & packing process with some further back-office automation and integration work.
Meg Rivers had a bulk order printing solution in place already, but the Covid -19 lockdown created a 200%+ surge in daily order volumes, and the existing ‘picklist to print process’ become unsustainable almost overnight. It was labour intensive and occasionally failed to print some items requiring painstaking manual checking.
With such unprecedented and rapid business growth, it was important to improve this aspect of their process rapidly to ensure that orders could be picked, packed and fulfilled smoothly.
The team at HelpDigital worked with Meg Rivers to identify the process flows they needed, and our team used Shopify's APIs and webhooks together with the Laravel software framework to deliver an application that met their needs.
The final solution allows Meg Rivers to filter outstanding orders by their custom order tags, tailoring their collection before creating an amalgamated picklist, for which an automated PDF packing list print job is produced. This includes all of the relevant order details from Shopify, including the pre-generated shipping labels from our previous integration.
The solution went from proof-of-concept to a tested, robust solution in a week - a huge reduction in stress for the staff involved at a time when the team needed to focus and allowing them to capitalise on increased growth & demand.
